The Martin Luther King Jr., Senior Center first opened in 1984 at Varick Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 121 Atlantic Street, Hackensack, NJ. To have an independent center has been a long time dream of its members. The fundraising began 15 years ago to build a multi-purpose center. The members of the center were steadfast in their commitment and determination to build the Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior Center. On October 23, 2014 that dream became a reality with the opening of the center. The center is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization located at 375 First St. in Hackensack, NJ which provides outreach, information assistance, lunch, socialization, health and wellness, education and fellowship.
The center’s mission is to keep the seniors of Bergen County connected with their community. The center welcomes all older adults retired and working from all communities. Our caring staff offers a warm and welcoming environment; a place to come and be with friends and to make new friends.
